Types of Yachts & Boats:
Cruising Sail
These yachts have a pleasant blend of performance and
comfort. You'll find large, awning covered cockpits, open
deck spaces, and a craft on which you can get cozy. Most are
made of modern materials, and many include such special
touches as Queen and double beds, air conditioning,
larger bathrooms (heads) and more amenities in general.
These are perhaps not the fastest boats on the water, but
when you’re cruising, you’re not in a hurry. Some larger
sailing yachts offer many of the same amenities of the
larger motor yachts.
Performance
Sail
This style of boat offers sailing at its most exhilarating.
You climb to windward for the thrill of a lifetime as the
ship heels and the keel grips the water. Your sails steady
the motion of the sea and your adventure has just begun.
Accommodations are a bit more sparse, but the lighter the
boat the faster and better you sail.
Multihulls
These special crafts are stable at sea with masses of deck
space and cool, private and well-ventilated cabins. Their
name implies what they have: more than one hull. Generally
the living quarters is center of the hulls, and sleeping is
within each hull. Your vessel is fast downwind and has an
exceptionally shallow draft, so you can anchor in as little
as three feet of water. Take to the blue water or wade to
shore.
Motor Yachts
Motor yachts are for those who care where they are going and
may prefer speed. For the ultimate in comfort and luxury,
there is nothing like motor cruising. The size of the boat
determines just how much luxury you may get. A larger yacht
allows for a full crew so that you can obtain sophisticated
service, and many offer such amenities as Jacuzzis, fully
equipped lounges, and entertainment and health equipment,
and luxurious master suites. This is your best choice when
you really want to be pampered.
Motor Yacht or Sailing Vessel?
This is a matter of personal preference.
Many people prefer the silence of sailing, the closeness and
oneness with the wind and the sea, and the satisfaction of
using nature to power your boat quietly and efficiently and
take you where you want to go. There is also a somewhat
superior level of skill required to successfully navigate
and anchor a sailing vessel. Power boats on the other
hand, tend to be somewhat easier to handle, especially for
mooring and navigating in close quarters as they have twin
propellers. Power boats tend to have more space and creature
comforts like larger bathrooms (heads) , and living
accommodations. When chartering a vessel, people tend to
charter what they are familiar with. Sail or power, you’ll
have a great time. On a separate issue, it is quite
fashionable these days to charter catamaran type twin hull
vessels because they tend to be more stable.
